Mountaingrass Music Festival
For over 26 years the small township of Harrietville has played host every year to bluegrass and old-time music festivals. Banjo player and luthier Laurie Grundy conceived the idea of a bluegrass and old time music convention at Harrietville and in conjunction with Nick and Janet Dear from Pickin’ at the Piggery in Melbourne they organised the first ‘Harrietville Bluegrass & Traditional Country Music Convention’ in October 1989. It quickly became the peak event on the bluegrass and old time music calendar in Australia and was affectionately known simply as ‘Harrietville.’
Mountaingrass continues the tradition of bringing U.S. Bluegrass and Old-Time acts to play concerts and run workshops for fans and players of all levels. Mountaingrass also showcases a selection of acts from Australia and New Zealand and runs instrument and other workshops for players of all levels. Most of all Mountaingrass offers two and a half days of non-stop picking and jamming and lots of opportunities to improve your chops!

Thule Bright 24 Hour Mountain Bike Race
The B24 has been borne out of a vision that brings mountain biking, the town and the tracks together to create the ideal location for a 24hr race. With the race so close to town, the B24 provides the opportunity for competitors to tailor their weekend exactly how they would like it. The tracks around Bright are renowned as fantastic and the town is a well-established tourist destination for the whole family with a myriad of sights and activities to enjoy. BASE brings these things together to provide a professionally run event in a quality setting for riders and their entourage.
The race caters for everyone, from the elite solo rider, to the fun teams of 6. There is a race for the juniors and also a groundbreaking category "Esprit de Corps", for those that may like to ride with team mates and don’t necessarily like riding through the night.
